OPENLab is a bi-annual artist lab lead by Paul Gazzola for early and mid-career South African artists who are interested in creating work in the public domain. It is an open and intensive residency platform aimed at generating new strategies and ideas in site specific, experimental and interdisciplinary practice.
OPENLab takes place at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein alongside the Vrystaat Art Festival plus a week long residency at Modern Art Projects (MAP), Richmond in the Northern Cape.
OPENLab is part of PIAD – Program for Innovation in Artform Development, an experimental arts and community engaged initiative of the Vrystaat Arts Festival and UFS – University of the Free State, generously funded by the Andrew W.
